Referendum on a Court of Appeal – 4th October, 2013

In respect of the above, the Irish Law Society is urging a “Yes” vote on the following basis =

“Justice delayed is justice denied”. This is an old saying but it is also a true one.

At present anyone who wishes to appeal a decision of the High Court must wait, in the great majority of cases, more than four years before the Supreme Court will be able to hear it. This is unjust and unacceptable.

The delay is damaging to Irish society and to the economy.

You can do something about it. You can vote ‘yes’ in the referendum which proposes the introduction of a Court of Appeal. This would help greatly to resolve the problem and would bring the Irish courts system into line with similar ones across the world.

Help to give Ireland a justice system appropriate for a modern society and a modern economy. Vote ‘yes’ in the referendum on a Court of Appeal.
