Irish Courts can award higher sums for injury claims – a legal newsbrief from Kilkenny Solicitors Holland Condon

The amount courts can now award has been increased as and from 3rd February,2013 as a result of Section 2(1) and Part 3 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2013.

For injury claims, the position now is, as follows :-

– The District Court in civil proceedings (eg claims for debts, accident and injury compensation claims) can award up to €15,000;
– The Circuit Court can award uo to €60,000;
– The High Court can award any figure.

Injury claimants are still required to first apply to the Irish Injuries Board before they apply to the courts for compensation.
