Rossa Fanning was appointed the Attorney General for the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

Mr Fanning, who is not a member of any political party, was nominated by new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar as part of the government reshuffle, which took place last Saturday.

A graduate of Blackrock College and UCD Sutherland School of Law, he called to the Bar in 1999 and to the Inner Bar in 2016. He is also qualified to practise in Northern Ireland. His practice as a barrister has focused on civil and commercial litigation, in recent years representing the likes of Facebook and Google in the Irish courts.

Simon Harris T.D. was appointed to the role of Minister for Justice on Saturday as part of the government reshuffle in addition to being reappointed to his existing role as Minister for Further and Higher Education, research, innovation and science. In an interview with Newstalk, Mr Harris said he will take the justice brief “extremely seriously”.
