Injury Claims – Take advice early

May 25, 2011

Over the past 10 months, we have noticed a trend where a number of people calling in to us for legal advice relating to injuries that they suffered as a result of an accident. In 2 situations the injuries received were bordering very serious.

The sad news that we had to tell these clients was that on top of suffering pain and injury, they could not now make a claim ! Simply because they had left it too late.

Speaking to other Kilkenny solicitors, they all pointed to this problem. One solicitor based in Kilkenny City had 3 such cases in the last month !

Generally speaking, you have 2 years from the date of being injured within which you must launch a formal claim for injury compensation. These poor unfortunate people consulted us after this period. There is nothing that any Irish or Kilkenny lawyer / solicitor can do to help.

If you receive an injury in an accident, our advice is to call and see a solictor to get advice on how you stand regarding compensation ( also known as “damages”).

Remember, getting advice does not mean that you will make a claim. It’s just legal advice. You can go away and decide what you want to do with your injury claim. At least, you have been fully informed and that’s the best place to start.
